Metopar is a combination medication primarily used for the acute treatment of migraines and their associated symptoms, such as headache, nausea, and vomiting. It combines a pain reliever with a prokinetic agent to speed up stomach emptying and reduce nausea.
Key Uses of Metopar:
Migraine Management: Relieves pounding headaches and prevents nausea/vomiting associated with migraine attacks.
Gastric Motility Disorders: Used to treat gastrointestinal issues, including heartburn and slow stomach emptying (gastroparesis).
Metopar typically contains two active ingredients:
Metoclopramide (5 mg): An antiemetic and prokinetic agent that works on the brain to prevent vomiting and in the upper digestive tract to increase muscle contractions.
Paracetamol / Acetaminophen (500 mg or 325 mg): An analgesic and antipyretic that reduces pain and fever.
How to Take
It is usually taken 30 minutes before food for optimal results, or as prescribed. Do not exceed the recommended dose, as excessive paracetamol can lead to severe liver damage.
Side Effects
Common side effects are drowsiness or sleepiness, dizziness or fatigue, diarrhea or indigestion, restlessness or anxiety.
Warning and Precautions
Alcohol: Avoid alcohol as it can cause excessive drowsiness.
Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Consult a doctor before use; it is generally not recommended during the first 6 months of pregnancy.
Driving: Caution is advised as it may affect alertness.
Medical Conditions: Do not take if you have stomach/intestinal bleeding, blockage, epilepsy, or a history of tardive dyskinesia.
Age Restriction: Generally not recommended for children under 18 years of age.
